How does (Intramuscular stimulation) dry needling work?
IMS releases tight muscles and relieves pressure on tendons, joints, and nerves by inserting fine needles into the muscle. This activates the muscle's reflexes leading to relaxation, better blood circulation, and restoration of normal function.
Is it going to be painful?
Upon treatment, a tiny aching sensation might be felt when the needle is inserted into the affected muscles. The treatments are fairly short and for most cases, it is generally painless afterward but some patients may experience soreness for a day or two after their therapy.
How many treatments do I need?
The number of treatments required depends on an individual’s condition. Generally, if the pain or injury is recent, it may only need 2 therapy sessions. Factors like age and general health status may affect the length of treatment too. Typically IMS therapy is performed once every 2 weeks.
I’ve had acupuncture before. How will this be different?
Both use fine needles. Acupuncture’s needle placement is defined according to Eastern Medicine principles while IMS’ core philosophies lie in understanding human anatomy and neurology. The process of IMS works to diagnose and treat pain from its neuropathic origin.
